In the eighteenth century, a group of devotees discovered that consciousness exists independently from matter and energy. Such a free-floating consciousness cannot be observed. However, when consciousness chooses matter or energy as its vessel, it gives rise to things familiar to us. Humans are beings endowed with consciousness, and when consciousness attaches itself to inanimate objects, it creates something extraordinary—a spirit.

Spirits, by their very nature, instinctively harm humans. Certain organizations conceal the existence of spirits from the public while secretly working to protect humanity from them. Centuries later, in the modern era, a series of events gradually brings spirits into the awareness of ordinary society.
