As he ran, Lin Zhe called softly under his breath, “Yan Yan, Yan Yan, is that you?”

When he failed to find any sign of Yu Yan, disappointment swept over him.

He leaned against a tall tree, utterly devastated, as though his soul had left his body.

“Boss?”

Guo Wei approached and called out anxiously. Lin Zhe’s strange behavior had baffled him at first—it was nothing like the calm, rational boss he knew. But he quickly realized that it had to be connected to the sister-in-law he had never met.

Glancing at the blankets and spirit vines overhead, Guo Wei found himself at a loss for words.

This unseen sister-in-law was clearly no ordinary woman.

They were all trapped in the S-rank instance “Firefly Soul-Devouring Sea,” and while they had suffered terribly—even losing two teammates—she had apparently found the leisure to string up a hammock and make herself a comfortable place to sleep.

It really was a case of comparing people to people and goods to goods.

No wonder the boss could never forget her. If Guo Wei had a wife with such overwhelming strength, he would never have given Li Miaozhu a second glance either!

After all, no matter how wonderful a woman was, what could matter more than staying alive?

A wife like that was the greatest source of support one could have in the instance world.

Then again, how had she managed it? Sleeping here at night, wasn’t she afraid of being ambushed and killed by the monsters? And strangely enough, ever since they had entered this area, their group had enjoyed an unusual stretch of peace.

There had been no ghostly corpse worms to harass them.

Nor had any flying monsters or tree-type instance monsters suddenly appeared to attack.

Guo Wei made a circuit around the area beneath the spirit-vine bed. One of his uncles made his living hunting, and when Guo Wei had been eighteen or nineteen, he had spent two months tagging along with him. Thus, he quickly noticed what was unusual.

“Boss, come take a look!”

Lin Zhe wiped his face, gathered his scattered thoughts, and walked over.

He still had not recovered from the violent swing between overwhelming joy and crushing disappointment.

When he saw those three familiar blankets, he had truly believed that he was about to see Yan Yan. He had no idea how he had survived this past month in the instance world. In order to meet her as quickly as possible, he had either been racing between life and death inside instances, or racing toward the next one.

A little more than a month had passed, yet it felt to him like several lifetimes.

He had been on the verge of seeing his wife, only to discover that it was all a false hope.

But he could not collapse. This was the second time he had found a clue connected to his wife. If there had been a first and a second time, then there would surely be a third and a fourth—until he truly saw her. The smart bracelet he had found last time could not prove much.

This time was different. His wife had left behind so many clues.

Enough for him to learn something about her current circumstances.

Lin Zhe bent down, picked up a piece of dung from a Ninth-Rank Blazing Fire Rhinoceros, and brought it close to his nose to smell.

Although he had little experience hunting, he was an extreme-survival enthusiast and possessed a certain amount of common knowledge. He quickly identified it as the dung of a high-level instance monster. But at that moment, it never occurred to him that it might have belonged to Yu Yan.

He assumed only that she had been lucky enough to discover territory once inhabited—and eventually abandoned—by a high-level instance monster.

With his abilities, he could not determine the exact rank of the monster that had left the dung behind.

Still, he had encountered quite a few Profound-Rank instance monsters, ranging from Fourth Rank to Sixth Rank. He had even seen several Earth-Rank Seventh-Rank monsters from a distance. Lin Zhe could therefore just barely determine that this was likely the dung of a monster above Seventh Rank.

The six members of their group were nearly exhausted, their strength all but spent.

They had no idea how long it would take to find another safe place to rest, so Lin Zhe quickly decided that they would spend the night here. He climbed the tall tree toward the spirit-vine bed, only to discover that it was strewn with all kinds of miscellaneous objects.

There were chipped bottles and jars, as well as clothing and daily necessities.

They all had one thing in common: every item was something he had seen in Yu Yan’s home, and some of them he had even used himself.

For instance, there was a glass with a chipped rim. Its body was pale purple and decorated with cartoon illustrations. It was Yun Duo’er’s favorite drinking glass. The blue one beside it was his, while Yu Yan’s champagne-colored glass completed the set for the family of three.

Lin Zhe picked up the champagne-colored glass and gently kissed it.

There were far too many things for him to take everything.

Besides, daily necessities from the era before the instances descended were of little practical use in the instance world. Fire abilities could provide flames, water abilities could provide drinking water, and carrying too many useless objects could even cost someone their life at a critical moment.

How had Yan Yan managed to carry so many things with her?

Could she have some kind of treasure with spatial attributes?

Lin Zhe fell into thought. It seemed that Yan Yan had been doing better than he had in the instance world after its arrival.

He set down the champagne-colored glass and rummaged through the pile of odds and ends. Eventually, he found an auspicious peace charm woven from red cord.

He tied the peace charm, which Yu Yan had woven herself, around his waist, then gave the people below an okay sign.

Only then did Guo Wei and the others climb up the tall tree to the spirit-vine bed.

The things they saw in the middle of the bed naturally gave them quite a shock, but that was a story for another time.

Meanwhile, after Yu Yan emerged from the “Firefly Soul-Devouring Sea,” she was just about to send Little Blue into the Plant-Spirit Minor World when she saw the twin siblings Yu Lei and Yu Wan waiting at the entrance to the village.

“Big Sis, you finally came out.”

Yu Wan let out a sigh of relief. “What took you so long? Mom and Dad were getting worried.”

Mom and Dad?

Yu Yan looked up, but she could not see her parents anywhere. She quickly realized what had happened. That was right—she and the twins had successfully escaped from the S-rank instance “Firefly Soul-Devouring Sea” and received a cooldown period of more than five hours.

Her extraordinary parents had never entered an instance, so at present they could only be waiting inside the village, near the instance entrance.

“Mm, something came up and delayed me for a while.”

Yu Yan offered a brief explanation. With a slight movement of her will, Little Blue began racing into the distance.

“Big Sis, what about Blue Giant?”

“Oh, I had it go pick up Yun Duo’er for me. You two take Mom and Dad home first. Once I meet up with Yun Duo’er, I’ll take her into an instance to kill a couple of Fifth-Rank monsters after the cooldown period ends. We’ll come home and find you then.”

“But…”

Yu Wan was about to say more, but Yu Lei stopped her.

“Got it, Big Sis. Second Sis and I will head home first.”

Yu Yan waited until the twins had gone far enough to disappear behind a house before she let out a quiet sigh.

Both she and Yun Duo’er had obtained instance cooldown periods. But to avoid exposing the existence of the Plant-Spirit Minor World, she had no choice but to have them remain here for another half-day.

The mother and daughter would have to pretend to enter an S-rank instance and kill Fifth-Rank monsters. Together with the cooldown period of more than five hours, half a day would be necessary.

“Little Blue, come back.”

After calling back Little Blue, which had only been putting on an act, Yu Yan avoided the direction of her home and found an unoccupied house at the end of the village. She released Yun Duo’er.

“Duo Duo, were you stifled in there? We’re about to see your maternal grandparents, as well as your uncle and aunt. Aren’t you happy?”

Yun Duo’er nodded. “If Mommy is happy, then I’m happy!”

As for her maternal grandparents, Yun Duo’er’s feelings toward them were fairly ordinary.

Her uncle and aunt would play with her, and she had rather liked them at first.

But every time they came to the house, Mommy would soon become extraordinarily busy and have no time to spend with her. Later, she came to understand that Mommy was busy making money.

She was afraid that after giving her uncle and aunt money for their living expenses, she would not have enough left to provide for Yun Duo’er’s daily needs.
