Chapter One: Watching the Meteor Shower, Only to Find a Spaceship!
Kansas.
Late at night.
Lin Fang sat in the open expanse of the farm, gazing up at the night sky.
Beside him, dense trees stood tall and straight, towering into the clouds.
In the pitch-black darkness, the red fallen leaves on the trees resembled flames, burning as they drifted down to rest at his feet.
After a long moment,
he lowered his head and picked up the coffee cup beside him, taking a gentle sip of the bitter brew.
From the nearby radio came the voice of a station host:
“Good evening to all listeners in Kansas. You must already know that the Geminid meteor shower will arrive at midnight.”
The host was broadcasting the news of the largest meteor shower to grace the Earth in nearly a decade.
“Remind my friends to dress warmer than you think necessary, be wary of radiation-induced chills, and it’s best to bring a reclining chair to a dark, open space free from bright lights, lie back, and gaze up at the stars...”
“Click!”
Annoyed by the host’s endless chatter, Lin Fang finally reached out and turned off the radio.
He glanced down at his watch.
11:55 PM—five minutes until midnight and the meteor shower’s arrival.
He had no original interest in such romantic spectacles.
But since this event related to his future happiness, he couldn’t help but pay attention.
Why would it affect his happiness? That had to do with his identity.
Lin Fang was originally a native of the Celestial Empire.
Although life wasn’t extravagant, it was a decent, middle-class existence.
Unexpectedly, one day, while eagerly accompanying his girlfriend to watch a meteor shower, a falling meteor struck, killing him on the spot.
When he awakened, he found his soul transplanted into the United States, inhabiting the body of a white young man named Peter Padrick.
His profession? An American cowboy with no house, no car, and orphaned parents.
His deceased parents left him nothing but debts and the nearly bankrupt farm before him.
Upon hearing the news of tonight’s meteor shower, he had come early to wait here.
Hoping to get lucky and use the meteor shower as a chance to return to his own world.
If he had transmigrated into a wealthy capitalist, a movie star, or a trust fund heir, he might still have some ambition.
But in his current situation—an apocalyptic start with no innate advantage typical of transmigrators—how was he supposed to defy fate?
Lin Fang drained the entire cup of stimulating coffee.
If he had that ability, wouldn’t he have been a “steel worker” in his past life all along?
With such a hellish beginning, life was better off just lying flat and giving up.
As he grumbled about being a transmigrator who embarrassed all his predecessors, suddenly a streak of light appeared in the distance.
In the dark night sky, a long meteor streaked across the atmosphere, dragging a brilliant trail behind it.
One after another, more meteors began to fall.
Beneath the veil of night, a magnificent meteor shower quietly descended.
Countless shooting stars tore across the sky like shining arrows, trailing dazzling tails that pierced the darkness.
Lin Fang’s mouth slightly agape, he looked up at the spectacular meteor shower.
“Boom!”
A deafening explosion echoed across the farm, accompanied by a gentle tremor underfoot.
“Damn!”
A meteor really had fallen!
Stunned, he stared at the crater gouged into the ground.
At the moment the meteor struck, dirt exploded in all directions.
A nearby pile of soybeans stored on the farm caught fire from the intense heat and instantly ignited.
The crimson flames illuminated the entire night sky!
Cursing under his breath, he hurried to the warehouse, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and sprayed foam onto the burning soybeans.
Fortunately, the meteor wasn’t large, and only a small portion of the soybeans caught fire.
Lin Fang quickly extinguished the blaze.
Panting slightly, he wiped dust from his face and stared at the steaming crater left by the meteor.
After the heat and smoke cleared, Lin Fang’s eyes widened in shock at what lay within the pit.
It wasn’t a meteor at all, but a small, silver spacecraft shimmering with a faint glow in the night.
What on earth?!
Had he just witnessed an alien arrival firsthand?
Rubbing his eyes to confirm he wasn’t dreaming, Lin Fang dropped the fire extinguisher and dashed back to the warehouse.
Moments later, he returned with a hunting rifle in hand, approaching the crater.
For his own safety, wary that these aliens might abduct him, he thought it best to take precautions.
“Click! Click! Click!”
Under his watchful gaze, the spacecraft’s hatch slowly opened.
Instinctively, he raised his rifle, aiming at the ship.
As a firearms enthusiast, Lin Fang had enjoyed live shooting practice during the weeks since his transmigration.
Now, holding the gun, he felt confident he could shoot the moment anything appeared.
But to his astonishment, there was no terrifying little gray alien inside.
Instead, there was a cute baby sucking its thumb.
A baby?
Still bewildered, Lin Fang took a deep breath to calm himself.
He needed to assess the situation first.
The golden-haired infant seemed to have noticed Lin Fang outside and stretched out its tiny legs, preparing to crawl out.
“Danger!”
Seeing the baby about to tumble out, Lin Fang didn’t hesitate and slid down the crater’s slope.
“Thud!”
Off-balance, he steadied himself at the bottom, set down his rifle, and caught the falling baby.
The naked infant didn’t seem to feel the chill of the night air.
Cradled in Lin Fang’s arms, the baby giggled softly.
Holding the infant, Lin Fang furrowed his brows and glanced back at the spacecraft.
Inside lay a white blanket, which he grabbed and wrapped around the baby.
Why did this scene feel so familiar?
Holding the sleepy baby with closed eyes, Lin Fang stared at the spacecraft.
Kansas, a farm, a baby in a spaceship...
Wait!
Wasn’t this the very image of Superman’s arrival on Earth?
Could it be that the world he had transmigrated into was the universe of American comics?
And the baby in his arms was Superman?
“Hiss—”
Drawing a sharp breath, he immediately found the baby even more adorable.
If he became Superman’s father...
Well, it seemed Superman’s foster father hadn’t had the best fate.
But he wasn’t the kind of noble person who would selflessly sacrifice himself!
“I’m your father; if you don’t care for me, I’ll disown you!”
That shameless kind of dad was exactly the father he wanted to be!
Overjoyed in his heart, he even began imagining how he could “mooch off” his son.
From now on, his life would be one of ease!
Besides, Superman was strong even as a child—he could lift a school bus, and wasn’t a harvester as light as a finger capable of carrying ten trucks?
He wouldn’t have to do farm work himself, nor hire helpers; this kid alone could do the work of ten men.
Just as Lin Fang thought his life was about to begin on a path of ease, he noticed something else inside the ship—a wristwatch.
The silver watch gleamed with a cold light, its glow faintly visible in the night.
Hesitant, Lin Fang reached out, and the moment he touched the watch, it began to transform!
The mechanical band extended like a living thing, wrapping around his left wrist.
“Click!”
With a crisp mechanical sound, the watch locked tightly onto his wrist.
Both surprised and suspicious, Lin Fang immediately felt dizziness sweep through his head.
At the same time, a flood of information poured into his mind.
Two minutes later.
He was doomed!
After receiving the data transmitted by the watch, the three words flashed in Lin Fang’s mind.
The baby in his arms was not Superman—but a child of the Motherland!
A child known for his crescent-shaped eyes, prone to sudden headshots, and fiery temper!
Staring at the infant in his arms, Lin Fang was shocked.
When this little one grows up, would he angrily shoot him in the head?
After all, one can never truly determine whether a person’s evil is born of innate genes or shaped by their environment.
At the thought of his previously obedient Superman son turning into a spoiled brat from the Motherland, Lin Fang suddenly found the baby less cute.
But he had no choice.
The incoming information told him they were now bound together.
If the baby died or was abandoned before reaching adulthood, Lin Fang’s life would also be “Game Over.”
So by wearing the watch, he had effectively signed a harsh contract?
With a thousand anxious worries racing through his mind, he lifted his hand and stared at the watch forcing him to bond with this baby.
On the dial, a single hand was slowly moving.
The system informed him that once the hand completed a full rotation—at the arrival of the next meteor shower—another superpowered baby would be delivered.
In other words, there was a high chance he’d receive another Superman at the next meteor shower.
Hope was not yet lost; there might still be a chance.
He exhaled deeply, gently lowering his wrist, and looked at the baby from the Motherland.
“Call me Dad!”
