Chapter 7: Generous Rewards

Lu Wenwu naturally wouldn’t be like some fools who believe their fate is solely in their own hands, defiantly resisting authority, only to end up more isolated than ever.
He had a rather favorable impression of the official organization that, after restructuring, was safeguarding the Chinese civilization on this planet.
“Ah!”
Just as Lu Wenwu opened the door, the female staff member was startled pale by a flash of yellow lightning.
It was Maomao, the lively golden retriever.
Golden retrievers are undeniably adorable, but when a dog with agility rated at 31 lunges at you with the force of a tiger descending a mountain, even a somewhat trained staff member would struggle to cope.
After all, a two-meter-high courtyard wall was nothing more than flat ground to him.
“Maomao!”
Lu Wenwu leapt out immediately behind and sharply reprimanded the dog in a low voice.
Maomao obediently stopped on the spot, looking back with a pitiful expression.
The three still shaken staff members were now staring blankly, their eyes filled with shock.
Such terrifying speed was beyond even many D+ level superhumans!
Lu Wenwu grabbed Maomao by the scruff, pulling him back with an apologetic look. “Sorry, the three of you. I just allocated some attribute points to Maomao, and he’s still adjusting. He only wanted to play with you, no harm intended.”
“Woof!”
Maomao sat down pitifully and whimpered, nodding his head vigorously to prove his owner was telling the truth.
Attribute points?
To a dog?
The staff members were utterly bewildered.
One of them wanted to ask what was going on but swallowed the words.
Probing into someone’s privacy and secrets is quite disrespectful.
“Sorry, Mr. Lu, we overreacted.”
The leading man bowed slightly and smiled faintly, pointing to the badge on his chest.
“Hello, Mr. Lu. We are staff from the Player Management Bureau. My name is Liu Ming, but you can call me Xiao Liu. If you doubt our identity, you can scan the code to verify.”
“Mr. Liu.”
Lu Wenwu extended his hand first to shake.
It didn’t surprise him that they knew some information—files and live footage comparison made it easy.
Identity was clear; official personnel were recognizable by their badges.
“Already coming to rush me to move? Your efficiency is impressive, but I haven’t even found a new place yet...”

“Well, Mr. Lu, your housing has already been arranged. You just need to move in with your bags. Your old residence will also be preserved for you; there’s no need for extra concern,” Liu Ming said with a cheerful smile. “Given your contributions to Shenzhou, you are entitled to the highest level of special treatment.”
Lu Wenwu scratched his head, surprised by such good fortune.
“What about my belongings...”
Liu Ming stepped aside, gesturing toward the truck and a team of burly men behind him.
“Don’t worry. We’ll pack everything carefully, deliver it to your mansion by this afternoon, and set everything up for you. Not a single needle will be left behind. Just bring whatever you need immediately.”
“That sounds great.”
Lu Wenwu agreed cheerfully, returned inside to pick up the still soundly sleeping Xiao Bao, packed chargers and some pet supplies into his backpack, and then boarded the vehicle the officials had prepared.
It had been fifty years since the polluted zones arrived, bringing humanity countless wounds but also miraculous powers.
There were cultivation systems as well as technology beyond human limits.
Take this hovering vehicle, for example.
In just over half an hour, Lu Wenwu arrived at his new home, located hundreds of kilometers away—a villa district.
And not just any neighborhood, but one filled with learned gentlemen and no commoners.
A quick scan with the Insight Eye showed that ninety-nine out of a hundred residents were A-level or above; the only exception was himself.
Standing in the elegantly decorated villa’s living room, looking at the prepared pet supplies, luxurious furniture, daily necessities, and even a brand-new egg pancake cart, Lu Wenwu displayed a strange expression.
“Are you sure this is the right place? A huge villa community and I’m the only newbie who just finished the starter quest? Does that make sense?”
“Of course it does. This arrangement was specially made for you. Just settle in comfortably. Utilities are free, and cleaning is done by robots,” Liu Ming chuckled. “Until I die for the country or become a player myself, I’ll be your dedicated liaison. Call me anytime; I’m on duty 24/7.”
“I feel like those above value me a bit too much,” Lu Wenwu shrugged.
Liu Ming couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re rated as ‘Incredible.’ Just this batch of rewards alone is enough to elevate our nation’s strength and stability to another level. They can’t be too generous in recognizing you.”
“Some other rewards and materials, including authorization codes, are on the coffee table in the living room. Feel free to check them yourself. If there’s nothing else, I’ll get started on helping you move.”
“Thank you.”
After seeing Liu Ming off, Lu Wenwu still felt unreal.
Usually, in web novels, newcomers who show promise are either suppressed, envied by petty rivals, or targeted by peers.
Genuine support like this was rare.
By contrast, carefree Maomao and aloof Xiao Bao had adapted much better.
The former was frolicking in the new yard, while the latter had expertly found a cat tree to climb up and continue sleeping soundly.
“Forget it. Since I’m here, I might as well settle down. No need to be paranoid.”
After a moment, Lu Wenwu decided to stop dwelling on trivial doubts.
First, he would see what else the higher-ups had given him besides a pile of Yuan rewards.

Refusal was simply impossible.
No one in a post-apocalyptic world, penniless and struggling, would reject the state's aid and goodwill just for the sake of pride.
No way, right?
There can’t really be such foolish show-offs, can there?
Lu Wenwu lifted the lid of a finely crafted wooden box, revealing four porcelain bottles inside.
Ten low-grade healing pills for minor injuries, five medium-grade healing pills with stronger effects, and three high-grade healing pills capable of regenerating lost limbs.
There was even a rare, supreme healing pill that could heal heart damage.
Although Lu Wenwu already had three, no one would ever say no to life-saving items.
Besides these, there was a basic-level skill book titled “Firearm Mastery.”
Two intermediate skill books followed—one a passive skill enhancing overall combat ability called “Military Martial Arts,” and the other an active skill named “Shadow Step,” effective both offensively and defensively.
Both were versatile, with no fixed specialization.
Clearly, these three skill books were carefully selected to avoid interfering with Lu Wenwu’s own development path.
“Firearm Mastery” was passive, quickly helping him master basic firearms.
“Military Martial Arts” improved overall quality.
“Shadow Step” combined offense and retreat.
For equipment, they also gave him a versatile piece of armor.
It was a sleek, all-black combat suit embedded with many matte-textured armor plates, paired with matching combat boots.
