Chapter 13: The Senior Sister Who Gets into Character

Although Tang Ya intended to settle down in Shrek City, it was already late, so they decided to spend the night at a hotel first.
When choosing a hotel, Tang Ya once again displayed her formidable bargaining skills. After comparing the value for money offered by various places, she finally checked into a hotel that was not luxurious but exceptionally clean, with private bathing facilities. One night cost five silver soul coins, which was already quite reasonable in the notoriously expensive Shrek City.
They had been busy until well past midnight, and the lights outside had dimmed, no longer shining as brightly as before.
After finishing her bath, Tang Ya emerged while still grumbling resentfully. “The cost of living in Shrek City is far too high. Even staying at a hotel in Heaven Dou City wouldn’t cost this much.”
Ye Xixuan sat on the sofa beside the window without replying, the muscles at the corners of his mouth slightly stiff.
According to the habits he had developed since childhood, he would never haggle over one or two silver soul coins. In his eyes, that was nothing more than a waste of time.
Still, he understood that everyone had different circumstances and grew up in different environments. Staying by Tang Ya’s side had allowed him to experience many things he had never encountered before.
Her gaze fell upon Ye Xixuan, who had finished bathing long ago. The gloom on Tang Ya’s face instantly vanished. She sat down at the edge of the bed, smiling brightly as she patted the space beside her and gestured toward him with her eyes.
“Forget it. I won’t dwell on it anymore. Come over and sleep, little Xixuan.”
“Big Sister Xiaoya, I can sit on the sofa and cultivate tonight,” Ye Xixuan said, his expression somewhat unnatural.
The memories of his previous life that he had awakened consisted mostly of fragmented recollections concerning the general course of the original story. In truth, his personality was still primarily that of this life; at most, he was simply more composed than others his age.
His bashful appearance only further aroused Tang Ya’s desire to tease him. Her gaze grew so suggestive it seemed almost tangible.
“Listen to your big sister. Come here.”
“Mm.”
In the end, Ye Xixuan still succumbed to Tang Ya’s clutches.
With a delighted giggle, Tang Ya wrapped her arms around him like a koala and closed her eyes in satisfaction, as though holding him this way brought her a greater sense of security.
As he inhaled the faint fragrance drifting from Tang Ya’s hair, Ye Xixuan stared wide-eyed at the ceiling. Tang Ya had shared his suffering and saved him in a time of crisis. How could he not feel a special closeness toward her?
…
Early the next morning, Ye Xixuan left the hotel and prepared to return to Sea God Island.

Tang Ya, however, declared that since they had finally managed to stay at a hotel, they could not waste the opportunity. In truth, she simply wanted to sleep in. She also told Ye Xixuan that she would handle the matter of finding a house and settling down in Shrek City herself.
After all, she really was more experienced.
The main road leading to Shrek Academy’s eastern gate was lined with towering trees, forming an expanse of lush green. The air was exceptionally fresh.
The moment Ye Xixuan spotted the enormous arched gate of Shrek Academy in the distance, he also noticed Bei Bei waiting there.
Bei Bei grabbed Ye Xixuan’s hand anxiously and began pulling him toward the academy.
“Xixuan, hurry and come back to Sea God Island with me to see Senior Sister. She kept asking me about your whereabouts last night. If I hadn’t kept my mouth shut, I nearly would have been unable to conceal it. Even so, Senior Sister mentioned several times that she wanted to come and bring you back to Sea God Island herself. It took me a great deal of effort to dissuade her. Your brother is truly at the end of his rope.”
“Huh?” Ye Xixuan blinked in surprise.
“Elder Mu didn’t say I was supposed to begin cultivating under Senior Sister only today? Why is she in such a hurry?”
“How should I know?” Bei Bei wore a bitter expression, as though he were on the verge of tears. Senior Sister’s intense possessiveness the previous night had reminded him of a childhood trauma he would rather not recall. Although she had indulged him in everything when he was little, she had also insisted on involving herself in every single matter. It was only in recent years that she had become slightly less overbearing.
“All right, enough nonsense. Come on.”
Bei Bei hurriedly led Ye Xixuan through the outer courtyard of Shrek Academy, heading straight for Sea God Island.
There was one thing he had not told Ye Xixuan: he had acted this way partly out of selfish motives. With Ye Xixuan now standing in front of him, Senior Sister naturally would not have as much energy left to supervise him. That meant he was free!
At the thought, Bei Bei could not help letting out a comfortable little hum.
“For the sake of your brother’s freedom, Xixuan, you’ll just have to suffer a little.”
Ye Xixuan glanced sideways at Bei Bei’s tense expression and suddenly asked, “Senior Brother Bei, are you hiding something from me?”
“What could I possibly be hiding from you? Do you have any idea how much pressure I’ve endured from Senior Sister because of you?” Bei Bei nearly failed to hold back his laughter, but deliberately kept his face stern as he replied.
Neither Ye Xixuan nor Bei Bei knew anything about Elder Mu’s conversation with Zhang Lexuan the previous day, and therefore neither had any idea what had prompted it.

The two of them did not speak again during the remainder of the journey.
Bei Bei was focused on using Ye Xixuan to draw Senior Sister’s attention away from him, while Ye Xixuan wondered whether Senior Sister truly had something important to discuss with him.
After roughly half an hour, Ye Xixuan and Bei Bei arrived one after the other at the open space before the Sea God Pavilion.
Elder Mu and Elder Xuan were nowhere to be seen. Only Zhang Lexuan stood quietly there in a white dress. Her long black hair cascaded down her back, and her gentle bearing, coupled with her exquisite features, was utterly expressionless. Set against the surrounding mist and sea of clouds, she resembled a celestial goddess standing apart from the mortal world.
Only when she saw Ye Xixuan did a faint smile appear in her eyes.
“Senior Sister, I’ve brought Xixuan to you. I’ll be leaving now.”
After greeting Zhang Lexuan, Bei Bei hurriedly ran off.
Ye Xixuan and Zhang Lexuan met each other’s gaze. With his keen perception, he immediately noticed a clear change in the way she looked at him. It seemed different from her usual possessiveness and controlling nature, though he could not quite determine how.
“Senior Sister.”
“Mm.”
Zhang Lexuan answered with a smile, then walked over to Ye Xixuan. Bending forward, she examined him closely, the movement accentuating the full curves of her figure.
“Bei Bei told me that you want to learn about soul tools. However, I believe that, at your current stage, establishing a solid foundation in cultivating your martial soul should be your top priority. I have already spoken with the Soul Tool Department on your behalf. Whenever you have free time, you may go there first to familiarize yourself with the subject.”
“Yes, Senior Sister.” Ye Xixuan nodded.
Zhang Lexuan lightly pressed her red lips together and reached out to stroke Ye Xixuan’s fair cheek.
“When we’re in private, call me Sister Lexuan.”
“Sister Lexuan?” Ye Xixuan’s eyes widened. He became even more certain that something was unusual about Zhang Lexuan, though he could not put his finger on exactly what it was.
Zhang Lexuan, however, had completely immersed herself in the role she had chosen. She would remain by Ye Xixuan’s side and become his childhood betrothed.
