Chapter 66: He Drops the Act and Lays His Cards on the Table (3)
In the end, Xiao Nan simply couldn’t sit still any longer. The chance to collaborate with Li Jingche was right before his eyes—a chance he absolutely would not let slip by. That morning, he went to the Xiao family home, intending to discuss his options with Ren Tianchuan. Ren Tianchuan thought this was a perfect opportunity for Ren Yishan to have contact with an illustrious family, so he brought her along to the Du household, under the pretense of being “the family of Du Yu’s girlfriend.”
It was a flimsy excuse, but when they arrived at Du Yu’s door and the servants heard they were Jian Qing’s relatives, they were allowed in without trouble.
They hadn’t expected to walk into utter chaos.
Li Shuang had just stepped inside and saw He Jiangyu, Jian Qing, and Xiao Yuncheng seated in the living room. The live broadcast camera panned over the three of them, and from behind came Ren Yishan’s incredulous voice:
“Qingqing, why are you… here with my fiancé?”
Her tone was full of anguish, her face half-covered as if on the verge of tears, though not a single tear actually fell.
Li Shuang happened to be live-streaming at the time. Thanks to her exuberant personality, the variety show had taken on a flavor reminiscent of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” The audience, already eager for gossip, exploded with excitement at Ren Yishan’s words:
“Oh my god! What is even happening?”
“It’s true what they say—rich families really are a mess.”
“I mean, the guy’s actually pretty good-looking. That mouth, especially—so sexy.”
As the comments flooded the live stream at a dizzying pace, Li Shuang didn’t bother to intervene. She enjoyed the drama, knowing she could always throw some money at the problem later to cool things down if need be.
Jian Qing remained silent, her gaze fixed on Ren Yishan, who promptly began to cry and approached her, as if preparing to escalate from verbal accusations to something more physical. Yet, to Jian Qing’s surprise, Ren Yishan bypassed her entirely.
Instead, she grasped He Jiangyu’s arm.
“Mr. He,” she said, “last time you defended Jian Qing, claiming she had a boyfriend. Now, not only is she seducing Du Yu, but she’s also entangled with my fiancé. Mr. He, please, don’t be angry with the Jian family on her account—my sister’s just like this. Please don’t blame them.”
Jian Qing was at a loss for words. She glanced at Li Shuang, hoping she wouldn’t stir the pot any further—she’d already had her fill of this endless drama, especially with Ren Yishan at the center of it all.
But the comment section only grew more frenzied:
“Jian Qing really is beautiful!”
“Wow, this girl is living the life.”
“If you ask me, she’s shameless!”
“Stealing your sister’s fiancé? That’s just low!”
The public opinion was hardly favorable. Normally, Li Shuang wouldn’t care if it were anyone else, but since this concerned her future sister-in-law, she immediately stepped in to smooth things over:
“Dear viewers, let’s not get caught up in the scandals of the rich and famous. Who knows what’s true or false? Come with me to check out the pool in the backyard instead.”
“But Miss Ren, wasn’t this fiancé originally Miss Jian’s? Weren’t you the one who took him from her?” He Jiangyu chimed in.
The good news: He Jiangyu was firmly on Jian Qing’s side.
The bad news: He was unintentionally shipping Jian Qing and Xiao Yuncheng as a couple.
The chat exploded:
“Plot twist after plot twist! Shuang, you’re giving us everything!”
“Don’t go, I want to see how this unfolds! Is this one of those switched-at-birth stories?”
All the while, Jian Qing hadn’t spoken a single word.
Yet her expression—on the verge of shattering—said more than words ever could:
Please, let the madness stop before I get dragged under too!
“Mr. He,” Ren Yishan seized the opportunity to press her advantage. She’d watched Li Shuang’s live streams before arriving at the Jian home and knew that a careless word here could turn into a tsunami outside. She added, “But now, isn’t Qingqing dating President Du?”
At that moment, Li Jingche and Du Yu entered from the rear door in quick succession.
Li Jingche’s face was grim, his phone still showing Li Shuang’s live stream.
He was thoroughly displeased by what he saw.
Jian Qing and Xiao Yuncheng—the so-called perfect-looking couple? People saying they were made for each other? Clearly, those people had no clue what a true match looked like.
Tall and imposing, Li Jingche stood behind the sofa, and the moment he entered, silence fell upon the room.
Ren Yishan still clung to He Jiangyu, about to say more, but He Jiangyu quickly moved to stand beside Du Yu, looking as if he’d rather be anywhere else.
Upon seeing Li Jingche, Ren Yishan rolled her eyes without restraint.
“So it’s you,” she sneered. “Turns out this is the male model Qingqing is keeping outside…”
Only Ren Yishan would dare say such a thing. Aside from the oblivious Ren Tianchuan, everyone else in the room sucked in a sharp breath.
Even Li Shuang was momentarily stunned, missing the flood of comments about her brother in the live stream:
“Now I finally understand what it means to be ripped straight out of a comic book.”
“I used to scoff at Jian Qing, but now I want to study her every move.”
“Honestly, girl, with so many handsome men around, are you sure you can handle it? If not, let me do it!”
Ren Yishan marched right up to Li Jingche, stood on tiptoe, and grabbed him by the collar, though her words were aimed at Du Yu:
“President Du, your girlfriend is keeping a male model on the side—this man right here. Did you know about it?”
