Chapter 118: Sending Him to His Death
“Good, good, good—excellent.” The towering young woman stared at the black-crystal iron chest, exhilaration in her voice. “Now that we have the formation plate, we can go back.”
“Woohoo!”
The others behind her erupted in cheers.
Joy appeared on every face, and their taut nerves finally relaxed.
Tang Mubai took it all in without betraying a hint of emotion and prepared to step out of the elevator.
“You don’t need to come out. Just hand me the chest,” the towering young woman stopped him.
“I don’t need to leave?” Tang Mubai asked in surprise. “Really?”
“Of course. Why are you wasting your breath? Hurry up and give me the chest.” She sounded impatient.
“All right, all right.” Cooperating, Tang Mubai handed her the black-crystal iron chest.
The chest weighed roughly a hundred kilograms. In Tang Mubai’s hands, it had felt almost weightless. But when the towering young woman took it, her hand sank under its weight. She could not help looking up at Tang Mubai, surprise flickering in her eyes.
Though she said nothing, her contempt for him was obvious.
It was only natural. People rarely took seventeen- or eighteen-year-olds seriously at first glance.
Even if they were geniuses, how strong could they be?
After taking the chest, the towering young woman turned and walked away, waving her hand carelessly.
“Send him to his death.”
“Gahaha!” “Kekeke…”
The others who remained, having received their orders, advanced toward Tang Mubai with grotesque laughter.
Tang Mubai smiled as well, raising his voice. “Are you sure you want to kill me?”
The towering young woman ignored him and continued forward.
“All right, then. Don’t blame me for not giving you a chance.”
Tang Mubai shook his head and prepared to strike.
“Wait!”
The towering young woman’s shout suddenly rang out. A half-beast who was just about to enter the elevator and kill Tang Mubai stopped instinctively and turned to look at her.
“What is it?”
“Why are we waiting?”
“Are you going to let him leave? He’s a human!”
The half-beasts stared at her in confusion.
“Shut up, all of you!”
Her face dark with fury, the towering young woman strode back through the passage they had opened and stopped before Tang Mubai. She extended her hand and demanded bitterly, “Where’s the key?”
“What key?” Tang Mubai frowned, secretly amused.
“The key to open the chest!” she snarled. “Hand it over, and I’ll let you leave!”
“Heh. You just ordered them to kill me. Now you’ve changed your mind?” Tang Mubai chuckled. “Even if I had the key, I wouldn’t give it to you. What if I hand it over and you decide to kill me anyway?”
“Wheeze—”
The towering young woman drew in a breath. Her eyes slowly reddened, and murderous intent spread from her body. She enunciated each word through clenched teeth.
“You’re certain you won’t hand over the key?”
“Can you guarantee that you won’t try to kill me again?” Tang Mubai asked, matching her deliberate tone.
“Aaargh!”
The towering young woman finally lost control. With a furious roar, she struck at Tang Mubai with one claw.
“Go to hell! Even without the key, we can still open the chest!”
Boom!
A muffled impact rang out.
The towering young woman’s body was blasted backward like a bolt of lightning. While still in midair, she opened her mouth and vomited a great mouthful of dark blood.
With a heavy thud, she crashed to the floor. Blood continued to pour from the corners of her mouth, and her limbs trembled violently. She could no longer stand, lying there with barely any breath left in her.
The other half-beasts stared in stunned disbelief.
When they recovered, furious cries rang throughout the underground space.
“He isn’t an ordinary man! Kill him! Kill him!”
“Damn it! The man Lin Jinliang brought here must be a master-level martial artist!”
“Kill him! Whoever he is, kill him! The existence of this place must never be exposed!”
“Obviously he has to die! I’ve always said that humans can’t be trusted!”
“…”
Roars and curses echoed without end.
The enormous underground space suddenly became deafeningly chaotic. Yet no one dared to attack. They merely watched Tang Mubai with fear and caution.
Standing at the elevator entrance, Tang Mubai surveyed the cursing half-beasts, as well as the seemingly endless stream emerging from the corners behind them, silently counting.
His sixth sense gave him no warning of danger. That meant that although there were many of these half-beasts, they posed no threat to him.
That was enough.
The half-beasts whom the Anwu Bureau, the Governor-General’s Residence, and the Martial Association had been searching for throughout the city had appeared in the underground space beneath this building’s parking garage. Unless something unexpected had happened, they were the last remaining half-beasts.
They had hidden here, hoping to leave through the teleportation formation. To that end, they had made preparations in advance.
Tables and chairs had been arranged in the corners. Several large freezers had been installed. There was an abundant supply of food, along with various forms of entertainment.
More than a hundred half-beasts had gathered here, apparently intending to remain for a long time.
If Lin Jinliang had not come—or if something had happened to him as well—they had no idea how long they would have been forced to wait.
Tang Mubai could not help sighing inwardly.
Yue Shengke’s plans had been exceptionally thorough. If not for him, they truly might have succeeded.
Even if these half-beasts could never actually become human, they would still have become his minions.
“Enough! All of you, shut up!”
A furious roar rang out, and the half-beasts’ shouting instinctively subsided.
Thud, thud, thud!
Accompanied by heavy footsteps, a sturdy middle-aged man more than two meters tall strode out, his face dark with anger. His muscles bulged like twisted cables as he reprimanded the others.
Behind him followed a white-haired old man and a woman with a seductive air.
The moment the three appeared, waves of immense, savage, and alluring auras began radiating from them, rapidly spreading into every corner of the underground space.
Sensing those auras, the half-beasts fell silent one after another. They stood rooted to the spot, staring fixedly at Tang Mubai.
Tang Mubai grinned, nodding repeatedly as he greeted them.
“Human, you weren’t sent by Lin Jinliang to deliver the formation plate, were you?”
The burly middle-aged man’s eyes flashed sharply as he spoke in a low voice. “You took the black-crystal iron chest containing the formation plate from Lin Jinliang. Lin Jinliang was killed by you, wasn’t he?”
“Yes—and no.” Tang Mubai shook his head with a smile. “Lin Jinliang is dead, but I wasn’t the one who killed him.”
“Heh. I have no interest in how Lin Jinliang died. I only want to know whether the key to opening the black-crystal iron chest is on you.” The burly middle-aged man shouted.
“No.” Tang Mubai smiled. “Lin Jinliang never gave me the key. Where would I have gotten it?”
“You think you can fool me?”
The burly middle-aged man roared and swung his claw, shattering the air as he attacked Tang Mubai.
Whoosh—boom!
What answered him was a massive palm print condensed from force. It met his attack head-on and struck him squarely in the chest.
Bang!
As the burly middle-aged man’s attack was dispersed, his entire body was hurled backward into the group behind him. He knocked seven or eight half-beasts into the air.
They spat out great mouthfuls of blood as their burly bodies flew in every direction, smashing into the walls and crashing against the cavern ceiling. Each impact left behind a gaping crater and a dull boom, while quantities of sand and rubble streamed down in a constant shower.
