Chapter 12: Peril in the Blood Soul Mist, A Mysterious Woman's Scheme Revealed
Li Hongjun watched the mysterious woman with heightened vigilance. This woman possessed remarkable strength and had come here with a clear purpose—to seize the Blood Soul Stone. He realized that a fierce battle was inevitable.
“Miss, you come demanding the Blood Soul Stone without any explanation. Do you really think it’s that easy? Do you take us for cowards?” The Spirit Monkey blinked mischievously, teasing her in an attempt to ease the tension in the air.
The mysterious woman snorted coldly. “Ignorant whelps. The secrets of the Blood Soul Stone are beyond your comprehension. Refuse to hand it over, and you shall die!” With that, she formed intricate seals with her hands. Black light erupted, and several streams of shadowy sword energy shot forth like bolts of darkness toward the group.
“Well done!” Iron Tiger roared, swinging his massive blade and unleashing the “Fierce Tiger Rends the Earth.” A tremendous arc of blade energy collided with the black sword energy. With a thunderous boom, the clash sent shockwaves through the ground, splitting the earth beneath their feet.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Li Hongjun gathered his spiritual energy and struck with the “Stellar Burst Fist” toward the mysterious woman. The force of his punch tore through the air, whipping up a violent gale. The woman’s figure flickered ghostlike, evading the attack with ease. Whispering incantations, she summoned a swarm of black bats that surged toward the group like a living storm.
“Yikes, those bats are disgusting!” Mighty Bear grumbled, unleashing the “Bear King’s Fist.” Massive fist shadows smashed into the horde, obliterating countless bats, but more kept coming, wave after wave.
Lin Yu brandished his azure longsword, performing the “Breeze Phantom Sword Art.” Swordlights flashed like a blue whirlwind, cutting down bats that drew near. Yet their numbers seemed endless, and the group was soon overwhelmed.
“Master Li, this won’t work! These bats are endless—we’ll run out of spiritual energy before they do!” Lin Yu cried as he struck furiously, sweat beading on his brow.
Li Hongjun’s brows knitted tightly as he searched for a solution. Suddenly, his eyes brightened. “Spirit Monkey, look around for any traps or weak points! This woman must be using something to summon these endless bats!”
The Spirit Monkey nodded and disappeared in a flash. The mysterious woman saw him go and smiled coldly. “Do you really think you can escape? None of you will leave here alive!” She intensified her control over the bats, their attacks growing even fiercer.
Li Hongjun and his companions fought back with all their might, each moment more perilous than the last. Just as they were about to be overrun, the Spirit Monkey’s voice echoed from a corner of the house: “Brother Li! I found it! There’s a black crystal here—looks like it’s the key to controlling the bats!”
Li Hongjun’s heart leaped with hope. “Lin Yu, Iron Tiger, Mighty Bear—cover me! I’ll destroy the crystal!”
The three immediately unleashed their strongest attacks and defenses to suppress the mysterious woman. Lin Yu performed the “Azure Dragon Gale Slash,” sending a mighty blue dragon tornado roaring toward her. Iron Tiger let out a deafening tiger’s roar, the “Tiger’s Roar in the Forest,” sending shockwaves that buffeted the woman. Mighty Bear conjured the “Bear’s Guardian,” and a massive bear spirit shielded the group from the oncoming bats.
Seizing the moment, Li Hongjun used the “Bagua Drifting Steps,” his body flashing like lightning toward the corner where the Spirit Monkey waited. The mysterious woman’s face darkened as she tried to intercept, but the others held her at bay.
Li Hongjun reached the corner and found the black crystal, pulsing with eerie light. Channeling all his power, he struck with the “Blood Soul Starbreaker.” A beam of energy, infused with the might of darkness and the stars, shot straight at the crystal.
“No!” the mysterious woman shrieked in fury as she saw Li Hongjun about to destroy it.
With a resounding crash, the black crystal shattered. The bats instantly lost control, dropping to the ground and dissolving into puddles of black water.
“How dare you destroy my summoning crystal!” The mysterious woman glared venomously at Li Hongjun, her eyes blazing with murderous intent.
“Hmph, you struck first—don’t blame us now. So, are you ready to explain why you’re so obsessed with the Blood Soul Stone?” Li Hongjun stared back, unafraid.
She snorted. “Since you’re so eager to court death, I’ll tell you. Beneath Ruili City lies an ancient evil beast, sealed away for centuries. The Blood Soul Stone is one of the key artifacts needed to break the seal. If the seal is undone, the beast will be unleashed, plunging not only Ruili but the entire region into catastrophe. I am a descendant of those charged with guarding the seal. But now that you have the Blood Soul Stone, if the Shadow Alliance learns its true purpose, they will stop at nothing to take it and break the seal—then all hope is lost. That is why you must hand the stone over to me for safekeeping.”
The revelation stunned Li Hongjun and his friends. They never imagined the Blood Soul Stone hid such a terrifying secret.
“You claim to be a guardian of the seal. What proof do you have? For all we know, you could be working with the Shadow Alliance, trying to trick us into handing over the stone,” Iron Tiger said suspiciously.
The woman sneered. “You think you’re worthy partners? If I weren’t set on stopping the beast’s release, I wouldn’t care a whit for your lives.”
Lin Yu frowned. “Master Li, I think she’s telling the truth. But we can’t just hand over the Blood Soul Stone—we need a plan that works for both sides.”
After a moment’s thought, Li Hongjun replied, “We’re willing to trust you, but the Blood Soul Stone is too important to relinquish lightly. Why don’t we guard it together and prevent the Shadow Alliance from seizing it and breaking the seal?”
She hesitated, then scoffed, “Join forces with you? What help could you possibly offer?”
“Hey, don’t underestimate us! If we hadn’t acted fast just now, your own bats might have overwhelmed even you!” the Spirit Monkey protested, disgruntled.
Li Hongjun shot him a warning glance, then said to the woman, “We may not be as strong as you, but we have courage and resolve. Besides, the Shadow Alliance already hates us—they won’t spare us either. If we join forces, our chances are better.”
She considered briefly, then nodded. “Fine. I’ll trust you—for now. But if you try anything, you’ll regret it.”
Just then, the sound of commotion erupted outside the manor—another group was approaching.
“Damn, could the Shadow Alliance be back?” Mighty Bear tensed, clenching his fists.
Li Hongjun’s expression darkened. “Prepare for battle! Whoever they are, we can’t let them break the seal!”
The group quickly formed a defensive formation and watched the main entrance. Soon, a band of figures in unusual attire appeared, led by an elderly man with snow-white hair and a cane whose sharp gaze swept over them.
“Who are you? What are you doing here?” Li Hongjun demanded warily.
The old man smiled gently. “Young man, we come from a hidden clan. We heard of disturbances in Ruili linked to the ancient beast’s seal and came to investigate. We did not expect to find you here.”
“A hidden clan? Linked to the ancient beast’s seal? Who exactly are you?” Iron Tiger asked.
The old man glanced at him. “Our family has guarded secrets of the beast’s seal for generations. Clearly, you too are entangled in these events.”
The mysterious woman frowned. “Your clan has always shunned worldly affairs. Why intervene now?”
He chuckled. “Times have changed, my dear. The seal’s fate concerns us all. If the Shadow Alliance breaks it, not just Ruili but the whole world could fall into chaos. We cannot stand by.”
Li Hongjun was moved. “In that case, let’s join forces. The Shadow Alliance is powerful—none of us can withstand them alone.”
The old man nodded. “Agreed. I see you are all young but strong and righteous at heart. Perhaps this is fate.”
As they discussed countermeasures, a black rift suddenly opened in the sky, exuding a powerful aura of darkness. A gigantic black claw reached through, grasping toward them.
“What in the world is that?” the Spirit Monkey cried out in alarm.
Li Hongjun’s face was grave. “This is bad—the Shadow Alliance must have found a way to prematurely trigger the beast’s seal! Brace yourselves!”
Everyone unleashed their defensive arts. Iron Tiger summoned the “Iron Wall Guardian,” a formidable shield of steel. Mighty Bear conjured the “Bear’s Bastion,” fusing with the iron wall for greater defense. Lin Yu cast the “Breeze Sword Array,” encircling the group in a ring of azure swords. Li Hongjun formed a “Stellar Shield,” a veil of starlight. The mysterious woman added a “Shadow Phantom Shield,” layering darkness over their defenses. The old man invoked the “Heaven-Earth Primal Barrier,” enveloping them all.
The black claw slammed into their shields with a crackling hiss, shuddering the barriers as if they might shatter any moment.
“This is too much! We can’t hold it!” Mighty Bear cried, gritting his teeth.
As Li Hongjun searched frantically for a way out, his thoughts turned to the Blood Soul Stone. Risky as it was, it might be their only hope.
“Hold on! I’ll try the Blood Soul Stone!” Li Hongjun drew the stone, channeling his power to merge its energy with their defenses.
“You’re mad! That could make things worse!” the mysterious woman protested.
“We have no choice! If we don’t stop this, we all die!” Li Hongjun shouted as he forced the stone’s power into the shield.
The Blood Soul Stone radiated a blinding light, merging with their defenses to create a shield of unprecedented strength. The black claw faltered, unable to break through.
“Now! All together—attack the claw and drive it back!” Li Hongjun called.
Everyone unleashed their strongest attacks. Iron Tiger’s “Fierce Tiger’s Sky Cleaver” sent a blade arc crashing into the claw. Mighty Bear’s “Bear-Sundering Fist” smashed into it. Lin Yu’s “Breeze Rift Sword” struck like lightning. The mysterious woman’s “Shadow Corrosion Spell” sent runes swirling. The old man’s “Heaven-Earth Rending Palm” battered the claw. Li Hongjun himself, wielding the Blood Soul Stone’s power, loosed the “Blood Soul Star Annihilation,” a beam of darkness and starlight.
Under their combined assault, the claw howled in agony and slowly withdrew, the rift in the sky sealing itself.
“At last, we’ve pushed it back—for now,” Li Hongjun breathed with relief.
But there was no time to celebrate. News soon arrived: the Shadow Alliance had found another key artifact at a different site in Ruili and was preparing to open the seal there.
“Damn those fiends—they just won’t quit!” Iron Tiger cursed.
Li Hongjun’s face grew grim. “We must act at once. We cannot let them succeed.”
The mysterious woman nodded. “This time, we can’t let them destroy the seal.”
The old man agreed. “No time to lose. Let us go immediately.”
Without delay, Li Hongjun, Iron Tiger, Mighty Bear, Spirit Monkey, Lin Yu, the mysterious woman, and the white-haired elder rushed toward the Shadow Alliance’s location.
When they arrived, they found the Shadow Alliance gathered around a massive black stone altar. Upon it rested a black disc, eerie light radiating from the strange runes etched across its surface.
“So you’ve finally come. But you’re too late!” one of the Shadow Alliance elders sneered.
Li Hongjun bellowed, “You madmen! Are you really willing to unleash the ancient beast just to achieve your aims? Aren’t you afraid of retribution?”
The elder sneered, “Retribution? Once we control the beast, the world will belong to the Shadow Alliance!”
He began chanting, forming seals with his hands. The runes on the black disc blazed as a torrent of dark energy surged from the altar.
“They’re trying to open the seal! Stop them!” Li Hongjun shouted.
They charged into battle, clashing fiercely with the Shadow Alliance. Li Hongjun unleashed the “Cosmic Star Technique,” starlight swirling around him as he tore through their ranks. Iron Tiger’s “Tiger’s Wrath of a Thousand Armies” swept foes aside with flashing blade arcs. Mighty Bear’s “Bear Tramples Mountains and Rivers” crashed through their formation. The Spirit Monkey darted nimbly, hurling throwing knives with deadly precision. Lin Yu’s “Breeze Sword Kill” repelled assailants in waves. The mysterious woman conjured a “Shadow Storm,” wreaking havoc among their foes. The old man’s “Heaven-Earth Seal” pressed down upon the Shadow Alliance elder.
Yet the Shadow Alliance fought back with dark sorcery, the battlefield resounding with cries and clashing spells.
Suddenly, the Shadow Alliance elder produced a black bell and rang it. An eerie sound filled the air, making everyone dizzy and weakening their strength.
“Something’s wrong with that bell!” Li Hongjun realized in alarm.
At that moment, the mysterious woman drew a white jade pendant from her robes. Gentle light radiated from it, enveloping her allies and dispelling the bell’s curse.
“This is my family’s heirloom talisman—it guards against the corruption of dark magic,” she explained.
Their spirits restored, Li Hongjun and his friends renewed their assault. Under their onslaught, the Shadow Alliance began to falter and fall back.
Sensing defeat, the Shadow Alliance elder gambled everything. He poured all his power into the black disc, trying to force the seal open.
“We can’t let him succeed!” Li Hongjun cried, unleashing his most powerful “Blood Soul Starbreaker” at the elder.
Just as the attack was about to strike, a shadow flickered and blocked the blow—it was the Shadow Alliance’s deputy leader, who had escaped earlier.
“Li Hongjun, you’ll never ruin our plans!” he roared, casting the “Dark Demon Shield” to block Li Hongjun’s strike.
“Damn it!” Li Hongjun gritted his teeth in frustration.
Meanwhile, the runes on the black disc glowed brighter and brighter—the seal was on the verge of being broken. Li Hongjun, desperate, called out, “Spirit Monkey! You’re the fastest—find a way to destroy the black disc!”
The Spirit Monkey nodded and vanished. The deputy leader tried to intercept, but Li Hongjun, Iron Tiger, Mighty Bear and the rest held him at bay.
Dodging attacks with nimble agility, the Spirit Monkey reached the disc. Channeling his energy, he unleashed the “Monkey’s Star-Shattering Finger.” A beam of force shot at the disc.
“No!” the Shadow Alliance elder howled in despair.
With a deafening crash, the black disc shattered, and the dark energy dissipated. Seeing this, the Shadow Alliance scattered in panic, fleeing in all directions.
“At last, we’ve stopped the Shadow Alliance,” Li Hongjun sighed in relief.
They exchanged relieved smiles—after a fierce battle, they had prevented the beast’s seal from being broken.
Yet Li Hongjun knew the Shadow Alliance would not give up so easily. Greater challenges lay ahead, and the Blood Soul Stone’s mysteries remained unsolved. Ruili City’s crisis was far from over.
“What now? The Shadow Alliance will surely return,” Lin Yu said.
Li Hongjun pondered. “We must strengthen our defenses and investigate the Blood Soul Stone’s secrets to find a way to resolve this once and for all. Friends, the safety of Ruili City rests with us.”
They all nodded, knowing this was just the beginning. Many hard battles awaited them, but together they would stand, protecting Ruili City and defending the peace of this land for all to come…
