Chapter 48: Blade of the Legion
Page 1/3
I consciously returned to my room and did not go out again that night.
Around nine o’clock, Zhang Ruolin seemed bored at the bar and messaged me: “How about we go to Dawn Radiance Plains to level up tomorrow? The monsters there are currently level 15–25. We can head to the level 25 area. I’ll invite Xiaobai and Axehead. Our Heaven and Earth Society team of four hasn’t gathered in a long time.”
“Sure!” I immediately agreed.
So, I asked Lu Xiaobei for leave and had her cover my shift. Although she was a bit displeased, she agreed.
...
The next morning.
After leaving my room to wash up, I noticed she, who lived next door, was already up and seemed to be tidying her room. Her bag and documents were piled on the living room table, along with a work ID.
A quick glance revealed her photo on the badge, dressed in work attire—a black women's jacket over a white shirt, long hair flowing, looking very elegant and fresh. Beside the photo were her name and position.
Lin Qingying.
Intern at Xidong Electrical City.
I felt relieved. Xidong Electrical City was very close, about a five-to-six-minute drive, so no wonder she stayed here—it was just for convenience.
I didn’t dwell on it and quickly finished washing up.
Then I left, bought breakfast and lunch downstairs, and headed to the player black market.
By the time I arrived at the black market, I had finished breakfast. I waited a moment by the phase teleportation array as Zhang Ruolin and the others arrived.
Both she and Xiaobai had reached level 20 and completed their second-tier promotion tasks. Axehead was still level 19, not yet in the second tier, probably because the Gene Warrior’s early leveling is slower.
“Ding Han!” Axehead greeted with a smile, “Long time no see! Last time we met, you were already top three in the regional rankings—awesome!”
“Just luck,” I smiled. “Axehead, what have you been busy with lately?”
“Busy with nothing, so my level fell behind.”
“Let’s go. Today, let’s catch up on levels. Level 20 is a piece of cake!”
“Yeah!”
We all paid the teleportation fee and stepped into the array.
This was my second time at Dawn Radiance Plains, but it was different from before—there was now a small market outside the teleportation array!
“The mutant beasts and alien creatures near the teleport array have long been wiped out,” Zhang Ruolin said. “We need to rent a vehicle. The market over there rents out vehicles—a rusty pickup truck costs 500 per day, pretty cheap and practical.”
“Sounds good, rent it!”
We quickly agreed and rented a pickup truck dropping parts everywhere. Axehead drove, Xiaobai sat shotgun, and Zhang Ruolin and I held our guns in the open cargo bed.
The truck headed north. After several dozen miles, the road gradually became overgrown with wild grass.
“Careful!” Zhang Ruolin suddenly pointed ahead. “Something’s there!”
“Mutants, be careful!” Xiaobai warned.
Sure enough, crawling creatures and devourers surged out from the nearby bushes—tier-one mutants, level 25 elite monsters. Judging by their numbers, there were at least thirty of them!
“Damn, so many!?” Axehead was shocked.
I said nothing, raised my Roarer, and began firing bursts. With a rhythmic “bang bang bang,” one mutant after another fell, blood plasma splattering everywhere.
Zhang Ruolin wielded a blue submachine gun with larger caliber and stronger firepower but a slower rate of fire. Her shooting skill was not maxed out, so her output at this range was much less efficient than mine.
“Axehead, don’t stop the truck. Kite them all and kill them off!” I shouted.
“Got it!”
Axehead floored the gas, the pickup skidding wildly, while Zhang Ruolin and I kept shooting. Within minutes, all the mutants were wiped out!

After stabilizing the pickup, Axehead stepped out with a submachine gun and said, “Ding Han, Ruolin, your firepower is seriously over the top. That many mutants gone so fast!”
Zhang Ruolin smiled, “I’m just riding his coattails. Ding Han’s accuracy and headshot rate are terrifying!”
“Let’s move on.”
I loaded a full magazine and said, “There should be plenty of mutants in this wilderness. Since we’ve drawn a crowd, more will likely come smelling the scent soon. We need to keep changing positions to avoid being wiped out by a large group.”
“Makes sense…” Axehead nodded earnestly. “Let’s go.”
So, we wandered through the boundless wilderness, hunting only those mutants grouped in tens or twenties, steadily gaining experience.
...
By around three in the afternoon, everyone was somewhat tired.
I had used over 3,000 rounds to push my experience to level 22 at 97%. Just a bit more practice and I’d hit 23.
Then suddenly, a blood-red flare appeared on the mini-map.
“Something’s coming!”
Zhang Ruolin swiftly turned and peered through her sniper scope. A horde of about a hundred bent-over Crawlers charged forward. Among them was a roughly three-meter-tall giant!
Its back was swollen with a huge pustule, reeking foully—it was a mutant beast!
“Careful, it’s a BOSS!”
Zhang Ruolin immediately turned to me, “What do we do?”
“All firepower, full blast!”
I said gravely, “Clear the Crawlers before engaging the BOSS. When Ruolin faces it, the rest of us attack opportunistically. If Ruolin’s health drops to half, she triggers Burst Charge and retreats. I’ll take over the BOSS.”
“Got it!”
“So many…” Xiaobai looked hopeless, staring at the dense Crawlers. With just the four of us, we couldn’t shoot them all down quickly.
“Don’t be afraid!”
After killing more than ten Crawlers with the Wind Whisperer, as they closed within 500 meters, I suddenly switched weapons and pulled out a massive launcher from extra-dimensional storage—an RPG-32!
“Holy crap!” Axehead nearly jumped out of his skin.
“Is that an RPG?!” Xiaobai was stunned. “Ding Han, where did you get that...”
“Snatched it from the Dark Tide troops,” I said without distraction. I aimed at the densest cluster of Crawlers and fired a precious grenade.
“Whoosh~~”
The grenade flew straight, exploding amid the Crawlers. Damage numbers flew up rapidly—
“4882!”
“5012!”
“4900!”
“5091!”
“4999!”
...
In the flames, over 30 Crawlers were instantly annihilated!
That left about 50 Crawlers. With our firepower and no concern for ammo conservation, we could handle them.
Actually, I could fire another round, but grenades were too precious to waste.

Switching back to the submachine gun, I kept firing bursts.
In the wilderness, the four of us formed a line, all in shooting stance, “rat-a-tat-tat” continuously mowing down charging Crawlers. Several rolled to the ground.
Within seconds, only seven or eight Crawlers and the BOSS charged forward.
“Watch out!”
I reloaded successfully, kept firing bursts, and dodged a pounce from a Crawler with a stepping slash. Xiaobai provided cover, her green submachine gun spitting fire.
Zhang Ruolin raised her shield to block the level 25 mutant terror wolf BOSS!
After shooting the last Crawler, I didn’t bother checking the BOSS’s stats. I loaded a full magazine and swept continuous fire at the terror wolf’s head from the side.
In four seconds, the magazine emptied and the BOSS’s health dropped about 25%.
“Crack~~”
Suddenly, its teeth pierced Zhang Ruolin’s heavy shield. Its mouth snapped open, splitting into three mandibles with barbed tentacles shooting toward her!
Even a veteran like Zhang Ruolin was stunned—this scene was terrifying!
“Run!”
I instantly triggered Burst Charge, dashing through the BOSS’s body, stunning it. At the same time, I spent 20 essence points to activate a Divine Craft!
“Swish!”
A golden light infused the mutant terror wolf’s head, internally dismantling its defenses. Golden cracks appeared all over its armor, greatly reducing its defense!
Without hesitation, I loaded a new magazine and unleashed another volley.
Unfortunately, firearm damage scales with firepower and is fixed; the Divine Craft bonus was minimal.
Beside me, Xiaobai and Axehead sprayed bullets wildly, while Zhang Ruolin triggered another Burst Charge, stunning the BOSS a second time.
The four of us working together was much faster!
When the magazine emptied, the Divine Craft’s effect was nearly gone. I switched to the Vanguard Stinger and launched a flurry of sword strikes from the side—slashes, Dragon Blades, and Bloodthirsty Frenzy rained down on the BOSS.
Finally, the mutant terror wolf let out a wail and collapsed limply.
[Congratulations! You have slain the Mutant Terror Wolf (Blue BOSS) and obtained: BOSS Ability Crystal ×1!]
[Battle Alert: You gained 124,536 character experience and 62,268 essence furnace experience from extraction!]
...
“Awesome!” Axehead laughed, his gun’s barrel glowing red. “Killing monsters with Ding Han is so satisfying. Last time, when I went out with some newbies, a devourer almost wiped us out. Ridiculous!”
I was speechless. “It really was ridiculous.”
Zhang Ruolin and Ling Baiwei covered their mouths and chuckled.
“How was the loot? Everyone got BOSS Ability Crystals?”
“Definitely.”
“Open them quickly!”
Moments later, I opened my BOSS Ability Crystal. A pleasant chime sounded in my ears:
[Congratulations! Your BOSS Ability Crystal has successfully opened. You obtained: Legion’s Blade (Quality: Blue)!]
...
“Buzz~~”
My mind went blank for a moment, then flooded with joy!
A blue monomolecular sword, and it was second-tier—the elusive blue melee weapon had finally arrived!
