The reason for writing this book
Tang Yuan had written quite a few transmigration novels set in the Tang dynasty, though all his previous works focused on the eras of Emperor Taizong, Emperor Gaozong, and Empress Wu Zetian. He had yet to venture into the period of Emperor Xuanzong. When “Drunk in Tang” came to an end, Tang Yuan resolved to pen a new story set in the time of Emperor Xuanzong—a sweeping, soul-stirring tale—which became the novel now known as “The Proud Tang.”
According to historical records: On the ninth day of the eleventh month in the fourteenth year of the Tianbao era, An Lushan rose in rebellion at Fanyang, and the An-Shi Rebellion erupted. The rebel forces under An Lushan swiftly captured the Eastern Capital, Luoyang, and then advanced toward Chang’an. Spurred on by the persistent instigation of Chancellor Yang Guozhong, Emperor Xuanzong forced Ge Shuhan, the commander stationed at Tongguan, to launch a full-scale counterattack. The result was a disastrous defeat—Tongguan fell in short order, Chang’an was soon occupied by the rebels, and Emperor Xuanzong fled in panic toward Shu.
During Xuanzong’s flight, the Mawei Slope Mutiny broke out, resulting in the deaths of Yang Guozhong and several of Yang Yuhuan’s sisters.
From that moment, the great Tang Dynasty began its decline!

The protagonist is thrust into the world just as the defeat at Tongguan shakes the realm and the rebel armies of An Lushan are poised to strike at Chang’an. This story promises to be a thrilling one, sure to capture your imagination!
