Chapter 12: Sincerity Is the Ultimate Weapon
Iris frowned, a trace of displeasure flashing across her delicate cheeks, clearly unhappy with Moyu’s change in attitude. Yesterday, he had been so respectful. This morning, he was lazy and careless. And by the afternoon, he had become so negligent. This human was exceedingly rude.
Such a shift in demeanor also sent Iris another signal: the other party was acting brazenly, without fear.
Iris inquired, “So, you have the leisure to come here and drink coffee?”
“Isn’t it to escape your assassination attempts?” Moyu countered.
Sincerity was his trump card. He laid his cards on the table, no longer pretending.
“I have precognition. If I stay at the villa in the afternoon, zombie dogs will come to kill me,” he said bluntly.
Iris’s expression was remarkable.
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely.”
Iris fell silent. Judging by her tightly knit brows, this matter most likely had nothing to do with her.
Moyu continued, straightforwardly: “I know you didn’t believe what I said yesterday, but it’s true. When my ability awakened, I saw a future far, far ahead—you become the Great Emperor, ruling this planet. As for why I appeared in your home, it was an accident. I was fleeing from enemies, and a contingency plan left by my family sent me to your house.”
Iris responded expressionlessly, “Sequence 88—Prophecy? I see. I originally guessed you were Sequence 133—the Strategist.”
Under Moyu’s sincere trump card, Iris also revealed a bit of honesty.
Moyu went on, “I don’t want to die; I still want revenge. We can cooperate. You’ll definitely need my ability, and I need protection.”
“Swear allegiance to me,” Iris replied simply.
Moyu grinned cheekily, “Of course, my lady!”
There was not a hint of respect in his tone.
Iris frowned in displeasure; Moyu’s attitude infuriated her, but she couldn’t afford to lose her temper.
Moyu pressed on, “Those zombie dogs—are you sure they weren’t sent by you? Does anyone under your command possess similar abilities? Could they have acted on their own?”
He described the appearance of the zombie dogs.
Iris dismissed the idea, “They’re not mine.”
Moyu stroked his chin and told her about his various tests.
“I tried different actions, and the precognition results varied...”
After finishing, Iris’s expression darkened.
Moyu concluded, “Either you’re being watched without knowing, or there’s a traitor among your men who brought the enemy into the village.”
Iris did not answer, her gaze fixed on the table as she pondered.
Moyu suggested, “I think you should start investigating those around you. For example... that Spirit Rabbit? You seem quite close.”
Iris’s face changed instantly, and she snapped back, “Spirit Rabbit? What Spirit Rabbit?”
Moyu answered, “The super cute girl who ran over and grabbed your arm after you got out of the car this morning.”
Iris’s expression visibly darkened, she couldn’t control herself and stood up abruptly, raising her voice: “Impossible!”
“Oh? You don’t know? You actually don’t know?” Moyu teased. “Her strength isn’t any weaker than yours.”
Iris sat back down, quickly regaining her composure. “If what you say is true, I can offer you protection.”
“What’s your friend’s name?”
“Alice.”
“You’re close friends?”
“Yeah, we’ve known each other since childhood and get along well...” Iris’s tone carried a hint of sadness.
Moyu recalled the intelligence from Alpha.
Spirit Rabbit belonged to the friendly faction.
He added, “Maybe she doesn’t know your true identity either. You might be deceiving each other.”
“I’ll investigate. If you’re lying... hmph!” Iris’s expression grew icy.
Moyu smiled, “No need.”
Iris sensed something and suddenly stood, “What do you mean?”
“I just want to know if the zombie dogs were your doing, what information you have, why you haven’t killed me, and your attitude toward me. Sorry, I lied—my ability is time rewind.”
“You…”
Rewind.
2:30 p.m.
Moyu yawned, turned over, and lay back down. This rewind had yielded a wealth of information.
“Alpha, what is Sequence 133—the Strategist?”
“Methods of winning over a target and gaining love.”
Moyu reviewed his conversation with Iris yesterday, noticing that his last few questions were almost all about her personal preferences: favorite color, favorite flower, preferred type of books.
He had used a brute-force approach plus his sincerity trump card to pass.
But from Iris’s perspective, he was accurately revealing the right information.
So that was it.
She was targeting this ability, not simply believing his words.
Iris wouldn’t act before confirming his powers, so Moyu had no need to worry on her side.
The problem lay with the zombie dogs.
Who exactly were they?
Moyu began staking out.
4:00 p.m.
He heard noise on the first floor and went to investigate. In the kitchen, he indeed saw the window open and two zombie dogs gnawing on the meat in the fridge.
The zombie dogs turned alert, snarling low as they saw Moyu and launched an attack.
Moyu clearly observed their movements, as if in slow motion. Previously, he could only see afterimages, but his vastly enhanced physical abilities had increased his reaction speed several times over.
The zombie dogs were about the size of medium-sized dogs.
He seized their necks precisely.
The dogs struggled fiercely and counterattacked with tentacles from their backs.
Moyu grabbed a tentacle and pulled it off with force, throwing the dog to the ground, then kicked the other one away.
The two zombie dogs collapsed, howling in agony. Their assembled bodies cracked open, spewing blood that stained the floor.
He scanned the surroundings and muttered to the air, “Alice, I know you can see me. Come out and talk; these little things can’t kill me.”
“Dear Alice, you wouldn’t want anything to happen to your good friend, would you?”
Moyu pulled over a chair and sat, waiting.
The two zombie dogs died.
Their bodies gradually turned to ash, the blood dissipated, and within three minutes, all traces vanished as if they had never appeared—only a ruined fridge remained.
Exactly 5:00 p.m.
The maid returned.
Moyu knew the person behind this would no longer show up.
Rewind.
This time he rewound to the moment he was taking Alpha back to the villa. He avoided the bloodthirsty bats, chose a more concealed spot to create an illusion, then lurked near the villa, waiting.
4:00 p.m.
No zombie dogs appeared.
This was bad news.
The other party could choose to act or not based on his behavior, meaning they were fully aware of his movements and had been watching him all along.
His morning actions had likely exposed some of his abilities.
What kind of reconnaissance did the other side have?
Technology or powers?
Rewind.
Moyu and Alpha arrived at the villa, followed their routine for lunch, and then rested.
He didn’t want to alert anyone.
The person in the shadows was very cautious and acted strangely. Knowing Iris was a vampire, they still chose to attack him.
Was it a test?
Before he understood the other’s purpose and methods, he needed to avoid revealing too much about his powers, limit illusions, and keep himself guarded.
Rewind was his greatest trump card.
If someone figured out the details of his rewind, he might face grave danger.
He didn’t intend to tell Iris about this.
The shadowy figure clearly didn’t want exposure, acting very carefully—either wary of Iris’s strength or having reasons not to reveal themselves. Either way, this could be leverage in negotiations.
Near 4:00 p.m., Moyu pretended to wake.
He grabbed a golf club from the villa’s storeroom, fetched a drink from the kitchen, opened the back door to enjoy the view, and then saw the two zombie dogs climbing over the wall.
“Die!”
Moyu struck first.
Swinging the golf club, he easily crushed the heads of the two zombie dogs. With his enhanced physicality and comprehensive combat skills, his close-quarters fighting ability had reached a terrifying level.
