Chapter 112: Choose a Wife with Caution
Ancient emperors once said many things, but Xue Tian'ai felt that there was no need for such complexity; a mirror was more than sufficient. At this moment, Xue Tian'ai was desperately trying to straighten his clothes in front of the mirror, attempting to cover the large, red bite mark on his neck. Just moments ago, Qin Mengxue had planted a massive love bite on him in a rather unconventional way.
For some, this might be something to be green with envy over, but for Xue Tian'ai, it was an incredibly painful experience! Damn it, it was so embarrassing! He considered himself a pretty big deal, yet here he was, branded with such a "monstrous" red mark by a woman.
"Wife, can we discuss something..." Xue Tian'ai, unable to hide the mark no matter what he tried, gave up in frustration and said, his voice brimming with feigned tears.
"Hmm, this cream bread is actually quite delicious. You have decent taste," Qin Mengxue said, not working at the moment but leaning back in her chair, enjoying her snack. "What is it you want to discuss?"
Xue Tian'ai looked at the hand clutching the bread and sighed helplessly. "Wife, can we not leave marks on parts of my skin that show outside my clothes in the future? I can't even cover this up!"
"No. How I act is my business. I'll bite wherever I want, and you have no say in it, hmph!" Qin Mengxue looked at the red mark on his neck, and a strange sense of accomplishment swelled within her.
"Damn, do you have to be so heartless?" Xue Tian'ai complained. "By the way, wife, did you bring any concealer? Can I borrow some? You bit way too hard; how am I supposed to face anyone like this?"
"I didn't bring any! I'm naturally beautiful; I don't need that kind of stuff!" Qin Mengxue continued, somewhat annoyed. "As for how you face people, figure it out yourself! Hmph!"
In reality, Qin Mengxue did have concealer in her bag, but for some reason, she vaguely didn't want Xue Tian'ai to cover the mark. Instead, she found herself wanting others to see it.
"Heaven, strike me down! Earth, swallow me whole!" Xue Tian'ai lamented, turning his chair toward the window and gazing at the sky at a forty-five-degree angle, a faint melancholy washing over him.
Seeing him so dramatic, Qin Mengxue felt a thrill of delight. A mischievous thought suddenly crossed her mind. "Xue Tian'ai, go to the third floor and bring me some water-based pens."
"Seriously, wife? Are you kidding me? You want me to walk out there with this huge red mark on my neck?" Xue Tian'ai asked, staring at her in disbelief.
"What, do you have a problem with that?" Qin Mengxue arched an eyebrow, sounding displeased.
"I have a problem. I protest! This is workplace bullying and domestic abuse! I'm starting an uprising!" Xue Tian'ai argued eloquently.
"Protest denied! Are you going or not?" Qin Mengxue asked coldly.
"No! As a man, I must be firm and know how to resist! I must..." Xue Tian'ai trailed off, stuck for words, then stubbornly added, "Anyway, I'm just not going!"
"You're not going? Then I guess I'll just have to give you another mark. You shouldn't mind that, right?" Qin Mengxue stood up, flashing a "wicked" smile at him.
Xue Tian'ai cursed internally, but his body obeyed instantly. He dashed out at a sprinter's pace. "Your servant goes and returns immediately! I beg Your Imperial Majesty not to use your teeth!"
Watching his hurried retreat, a triumphant smile played on Qin Mengxue's lips. Shortly after he left, a knock echoed on her office door.
"Come in!" The moment the knock sounded, Qin Mengxue donned her mask of the cold, decisive female CEO.
Hearing her voice, two elegant figures walked in: Gan Bingning and Su Jiaqi. As her trusted assistants, they came every Monday to report and discuss plans for the week. Unlike before, however, their eyes didn't lock onto Qin Mengxue immediately; they were searching for Xue Tian'ai.
Gan Bingning was a woman head-over-heels in love; even if Xue Tian'ai rarely reached out, he occupied a large space in her heart. Su Jiaqi, meanwhile, had developed a strange curiosity about him. Despite storming off after stepping on his foot the day before, she was still deeply intrigued.
Regrettably, Xue Tian'ai was nowhere to be found.
At that moment, Xue Tian'ai was walking back with a box of pens, praying under his breath, "Don't see me, don't see me..."
But his prayers were futile. Everyone he passed was captivated by the glaring red "strawberry" on his neck. Given his rising popularity in the company, the mark was impossible to miss. Damn it, his reputation was completely ruined! He felt the various gazes on him but could do nothing.
Finally, he returned to the twenty-third floor. Yu Xiaoxiao, that curious little thing, was nowhere to be seen, which saved him the trouble of explaining the mark. He sighed and pushed open the door to the office, only to freeze in his tracks. He immediately felt the urge to flee—Qin Mengxue wasn't alone; Su Jiaqi and Gan Bingning were there too.
His sudden appearance drew all eyes. Gan Bingning and Su Jiaqi stared at his neck in surprise, while Qin Mengxue wore a faint, smug smile.
"Xue Tian'ai, what happened to your neck?" Noticing the girls' startled expressions, Qin Mengxue asked the question they were both wondering about, despite knowing the answer all too well.
Xue Tian'ai felt even more annoyed—she was doing this on purpose! She was the thief crying "stop thief!"
He laughed awkwardly and scratched his head. "Don't mention it. I married poorly; I have an unreasonable tigress at home, and she bit me."
Upon hearing this, Qin Mengxue's smug little face turned livid. This jerk actually called her a tigress?
"That tigress sounds pretty fierce," Gan Bingning remarked, feeling a touch of joy that Xue Tian'ai was badmouthing his wife.
"Who knows if it was a tigress or some other woman he was out messing around with," Su Jiaqi said, suddenly feeling irritable.
"Hey, Miss Su, what's that supposed to mean? Are you saying you did it?" Xue Tian'ai retorted. He had helped her deal with that Zhang Dexing guy yesterday, yet she was still relentlessly picking on him.
"Mr. Xue, you..." Su Jiaqi's face darkened instantly.
"I am who I am, a firework of a different color!" Xue Tian'ai quipped with a nonsensical lyric, quickly continuing before she could snap. "Let me tell you, the tigress at my place is completely unreasonable! Terrible temper, average looks, and just plain fierce! And she bites so hard! Right, President Qin?" He turned his gaze to Qin Mengxue.
"How would President Qin know?" Gan Bingning asked, surprised.
"Y-yeah, I've never met your wife, how would I know..." Qin Mengxue's mouth twitched. Her face burned. While she wanted people to know about her relationship with Xue Tian'ai, she certainly didn't want them to think she was the kind of person he described!
But this jerk! Calling her bad-tempered? Average-looking? Fierce? Was she really that bad? It was just a little bite! Anger flared within her.
"Yeah, President Qin hasn't met her, so she wouldn't know," Xue Tian'ai sighed and sat back down, saying languidly, "Ah, one must be cautious when marrying, or it’s just self-destruction!"
Qin Mengxue's expression grew even gloomier. This bastard was actually hooked on insulting her to her face! She silently resolved that once Su Jiaqi and Gan Bingning left, she would definitely settle the score. She would make sure he learned exactly what "iron teeth and copper fangs" felt like!
