Chapter Forty-Nine: I Am Someone He Has Slept With
Shen Xinyi wasn’t in the best of moods today. Ever since Xue Tian’ai had secretly peeked at her underwear yesterday and disassembled his pistol into a pile of parts, she’d been investigating him. Yet her efforts had yielded nothing. First, she didn’t know the man’s name—she’d only asked about his occupation during their meeting, forgetting to inquire about his name. Second, she had absolutely no clues about him; she’d checked footage from several street cameras, but not a single clear image of Xue Tian’ai could be found. So it was impossible to track him down.
But whenever she recalled calling that man “husband” yesterday, remembered his lewd smile, and thought of the powerful muscles she could sense beneath his clothes, Shen Xinyi’s heart surged with shame and fury.
Just moments ago, as she was lost in thought about that day, a call came in: there had been a fight at the Blue Moon Bay Bar on Zhongzhong Street. Weapons were involved, and blood had already been shed.
Already frustrated from failing to find Xue Tian’ai, the news of a brawl escalating to bloodshed only tangled her mood further. She hadn’t planned to go, but her irritation grew, so she decided to head over—perhaps venting her anger on those troublemakers would soothe her restless spirit.
When Shen Xinyi pushed through the crowd, badge in hand, and saw the faces of those responsible, she was stunned and incredulous. Her eyes blazed as she fixed her gaze on Xue Tian’ai. This bastard was the reason her mood had soured for days, her state constantly off-kilter!
Xue Tian’ai’s lips twitched as he saw Shen Xinyi. He hadn’t expected to encounter the voluptuous, sheep-like young policewoman from that day!
Gan Bingning hurried to Xue Tian’ai’s side as the police entered, wrapping her arms tightly around his, her face anxious. “Tian’ai…”
Feeling her ample chest pressed and rubbed against his arm, Xue Tian’ai was slightly moved—this woman was worried about him. He gently patted her hand to comfort her. “It’s fine, don’t worry.”
But seeing Shen Xinyi’s fiery gaze, Xue Tian’ai felt a pang of dread, though he could only steel himself and greet her. “Hey, beautiful Officer Shen, we meet again!”
Shen Xinyi walked over, her eyes swiftly glancing at Gan Bingning clinging to Xue Tian’ai’s arm before shifting to the thugs sprawled across the floor, her brows knitting in displeasure.
“You did this?” In fact, as she pushed through the crowd earlier, she’d overheard whispers about how one man had taken on many—and won.
“Officer, you’ve got it wrong. I didn’t beat them; it was just self-defense!” Xue Tian’ai waggled his finger.
“That’s enough!” Shen Xinyi snorted coldly, stepped right up to Xue Tian’ai, and snapped a pair of silver handcuffs onto his wrist.
“Come with me to the station.”
Her handcuffing was as swift and fluid as Xue Tian’ai’s earlier fight—no hesitation, no wasted motion, just a seamless action. The move stunned not only Xue Tian’ai but also all the bystanders.
Gan Bingning panicked—after all, she’d invited Xue Tian’ai for drinks, and he’d only intervened to protect her from harassment. Now, seeing him cuffed, she felt deeply uneasy.
“Officer, isn’t this a bit much? You didn’t even ask—just cuffed him straight away.” She clung even tighter to Xue Tian’ai’s arm, as if afraid Shen Xinyi might take him away.
“Are you his girlfriend?” Shen Xinyi didn’t answer Gan Bingning’s question; instead, she arched an eyebrow and scrutinized her up and down.
Internally, Shen Xinyi couldn’t help but admire—this woman’s figure and appearance were quite impressive.
“So what if I am, so what if I’m not?” Gan Bingning met Shen Xinyi’s appraising gaze without the slightest fear, thrusting out her chest.
“If you are, I’ll let you know I’m taking your boyfriend to the station. If not, I don’t need to tell you—I’ll just take him away.” From Gan Bingning’s demeanor, Shen Xinyi guessed she probably wasn’t Xue Tian’ai’s girlfriend.
“That’s not right! He was clearly acting in self-defense—didn’t you see those thugs had weapons? And he protected me!” Gan Bingning grew more anxious as the beautiful policewoman insisted on taking Xue Tian’ai.
“But the fact is, he used force—and look at the state he left them in!” Shen Xinyi was determined to bring this man in today. After days of fruitless searching, here he was again—how could she let him slip away?
“So this is how police do things? Not even asking, just taking people away!” Gan Bingning was slightly annoyed.
“That’s why I’m taking him to the station for questioning!” Shen Xinyi replied impatiently.
For a moment, the office-dressed beauty in nude stockings and the uniformed policewoman with bare legs glared fiercely at each other.
Xue Tian’ai, watching the standoff, felt a wave of melancholy. He couldn’t help but speak up, “Why not ask the person involved?”
“Your opinion doesn’t matter!” Shen Xinyi snapped.
“Who are you to say his opinion doesn’t matter?” Gan Bingning was suddenly dissatisfied at Shen Xinyi’s bluntness toward Xue Tian’ai.
Shen Xinyi was momentarily stunned by this question—who was she to this man, really?
“See? Not even anything between you two, yet you’re so forceful about arresting him!” Gan Bingning’s confidence grew.
“I…I’m the person he’s seen in her underwear!” Shen Xinyi, either flustered or absent-minded, blushed and blurted out this line!
Xue Tian’ai felt thunderstruck—was this young policewoman feverish? Why would she suddenly say something like that?
The officers who’d arrived with Shen Xinyi were equally dumbfounded, jaws nearly dropping. In their hearts, they silently saluted Xue Tian’ai—how bold, to peek at the underwear of the police department’s queen bee! And to still be alive and kicking after such a feat was no small accomplishment—after all, a young master once proposed to her and ended up in the men’s hospital for over a month, courtesy of her flying kick! Yet here Xue Tian’ai stood unharmed.
Just as Xue Tian’ai was about to retort, Gan Bingning suddenly blurted out, “So what if he’s just seen your underwear? I’ve been with him!”
For a moment, the world seemed to fall silent. Shen Xinyi and Xue Tian’ai’s faces mirrored each other in stunned bewilderment as they stared at the assertive Gan Bingning.
Among the watching men, envy filled their eyes as they looked at Xue Tian’ai; some even cursed him inwardly for his outrageous luck!
Ultimately, Xue Tian’ai was still tragically taken to the police station by Shen Xinyi. For some reason, after Gan Bingning’s bold declaration, Shen Xinyi became even more irritable.
Shen Xinyi, badge in hand, shoved Xue Tian’ai into the police car, while the thugs were escorted by other officers to the hospital. Gan Bingning, of course, followed in another police car, consumed with guilt. If she hadn’t suddenly changed her mind about going drinking instead of dining, Xue Tian’ai would never have been dragged off to the station.
Upon arrival, Shen Xinyi ignored Gan Bingning, pulling Xue Tian’ai into the police station and leaving her outside.
But as Shen Xinyi pushed the unwilling Xue Tian’ai toward the entrance, a black Jeep in the station courtyard rolled down its window, revealing the face of a young man. He wasn’t exactly handsome, but his features were rugged and resolute. At that moment, his dark eyes stared in shock and excitement at Xue Tian’ai, his face full of disbelief.
Stepping into the station, Xue Tian’ai was overwhelmed with mixed feelings. Who had he angered to be cuffed and hauled into the police station without so much as a word? He’d only just returned to China a few days earlier, and all he’d done was fight—he’d even held back, and it was clearly self-defense.
At that moment, Xue Tian’ai felt more wronged than Dou E.
“What are you spacing out for? Get inside!” Shen Xinyi, face stern, pointed to the interrogation room ahead.
“Officer Shen, it really was self-defense, I—”
Before he could finish, Shen Xinyi cut him off, “Doesn’t matter what you say. Wait until I’ve questioned you.”
Xue Tian’ai’s lips twitched—this woman clearly wasn’t about to let him off. Was she still holding a grudge over him peeking at her pink sheep underwear?
“What are you looking at? Got a problem?” Shen Xinyi arched an eyebrow.
“I’m looking at your chest!” Xue Tian’ai retorted.
Hearing this, Shen Xinyi took a deep breath, forcing down her urge to pummel him. She replied coldly, “Do you know the consequences of harassing a police officer?”
“No, what are they?” Xue Tian’ai’s gaze grew even more brazen as he scanned her chest.
“Stop with the smart talk! Get in there, or I’ll add harassment of an officer to your charges!” Shen Xinyi shoved him again, clearly unwilling to continue the topic.
“Fine, I’ll go! Who’s afraid of whom?” Despite being handcuffed, Xue Tian’ai strode boldly into the interrogation room, exuding the air of a hero heading off to battle, never to return.
